Valence Media ("Valence”) is a diversified and integrated media company with divisions in premium scripted television, wide release film, specialty film, live entertainment, digital media and publishing. Valence launched in February 2018 with the combination of Media Rights Capital (“MRC”), dick clark productions ("dcp"), The Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group (“BMH”), and a minority interest in A24. Valence will continue to be an active acquisition and investment platform for media businesses in its current and adjacent business lines. The company recently acquired significant minority interests in production company Fulwell 73 and management/production firm Sugar23. The Company’s main office is in Los Angeles with over 700 employees in the US with offices in California, New York, Miami, and Nashville.

Department 

Strategy and Investments 

The Strategy and Investments team works directly with the company’s Co-CEOs, divisional leadership, and executives across the entire organization. The team is organized in three collaborative groups: Strategy and Partnerships, Investments and Analysis, and Research and Insights. 

Description of Responsibilities 

Valence is seeking an associate/manager for its Strategy and Partnerships team. This position will report to the VP of Strategy and Partnerships and work closely with the team to assess strategy for the company, new business initiatives, new product launches, and design and execute operational integration of strategic partners and internal transformations (including operational excellence initiatives). This resource will need the ability to research and synthesize complex problems, strong project management and prioritization skills and the flexibility to manage across a diverse set of stakeholders. 

Valence is a learning culture and this role offers the opportunity to build a broad toolkit of capabilities, an understanding of the industry, and deep operational expertise while pondering some of the biggest strategic shifts facing the industry. 

The pace of change and implementation of new strategic initiatives will require a dynamic person that can balance the discipline to be both process-driven and comfortable working outside the bounds of a highly structured role. This role will create meaningful opportunity for professional development and exposure to all facets of the business as the company is highly cross-functional. While this position will have many touch points with the Film, TV, and Digital teams, it will not be supporting day-to-day project/investment underwriting or financial modeling. 

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Have a bachelor’s degree with strong GPA; MBA preferred 
  • Possess 4-6 years of prior work experience, preferably in entertainment, private equity, investment banking, management consulting, or within a growth company 
  • Be advanced in Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Have strong organizational and project management capabilities 
  • Have excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills 
  • Have a natural curiosity to ask questions, challenge assumptions and dig deeper through research 
  • Be able to synthesize and clearly communicate large amounts of information 
  • Be a self-starter and able to work independently and excel in a highly entrepreneurial environment 
  • Possess an interest and/or passion for the media and entertainment ecosystem 
  • Have the ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
